Racist graffiti and hate-related occurrences have rocked the school for a month
Talk about disrupting the learning process! Ohio’s Oberlin College, located 30 miles outside of Cleveland, has endured a monthlong string of what officials there called hate-related incidents and vandalism. In response, the college cancelled all classes and convened a “day of solidarity” in its 1,200-seat campus chapel. The event was packed. And the college president, Marvin Krislov, apologized to students who felt threaten by the hate-motivated occurrences. Over the last month, racist, anti-Semitic and anti-gay messages have been left around campus. The incidents included racist remarks written on Black History Month posters and “Whites Only” scrawled above a campus water fountain. After midnight on Sunday, a person was seen dressed in a white robe and hood near the Afrikan Heritage House. “From what we have seen we believe these actions are the work of a very small number of cowardly people,” Krislov told the students. Authorities do not know whether the suspects involved are students or from off-campus. Oberlin College has been considered one of the most progressive and gay-friendly schools in the country. Founded in 1833, it was one of the first in the nation to educate women and to admit black students. Before the Civil War, it was a stop on the Underground Railroad. (New York Times)

I am interesting in english education and im trying to find a college in Ohio that has a good english education program.
I wanna Major in writing, either creative writing or journalism. I wanna be a reporter or have my own column in a magazine or something, but i’m not to sure what college i wanna go to. I really want to go to NYU, but i’m not so sure i can get into that school, so i need some alternatives.
During what time period did most colleges start opening up for women in the United States?
I’m trying do decide between Lewis & Clark College in Portland, OR or Oberlin College in Oberlin, OH.
I want to go to LC because it’s located in Portland and there are great outdoor opportunities, but on the downside it’s really expensive.
I like Oberlin because it has a great science department and my financial aid package is extremely good there, but I don’t think the outdoor opportunities are that great and it’s located in the middle of nowhere. There aren’t any mountains too, it’s all flat.
So should I choose the expensive outdoorsy school? Or should I choose the inexpensive school with a great science department but shitty outdoorsy opportunities? helppppppppp!
Also I’ve visited LC but not Oberlin. So I’m not entirely sure about the vibe of Oberlin.. so there could be outdoor enthusiasts and I just don’t know about them
will it be hard ? i mean, how good can you get if you just started playing at age 14. Could i graduate at a music school at college and be a succesful pianist?
I’m an upcoming senior in high school and I’m still unsure of what I’m going to do in college but I have somewhat of an idea.
My dilemma is that I love money, but i love music more yet I need money more than music. So I’m looking for a college where I can major in some chemistry field and minor in a good music program. There are some colleges out there that can do that right? Thanks
